In addition to the Pet Health Care Library, we have provided the following links to websites that provide some great information on a variety of topics related to veterinary medicine and pet health care. We will update this page frequently, and would love to hear your ideas on links that you would like to see us add to this page to share with other pet owners. ANAPSID - This is a great reference website for information on amphibians, reptiles and snakes.

Behaviour problems  - Founded by Brian Kilcommons and Sharon Wilson, best-selling authors and recognized experts on animal training and behavior, this site is a terrific resource for advice on a variety of behavioral problems. If you want to learn more about feline housesoiling, barking dogs, aggression, or any other behavioral problem, check this one out!  

Bowmanville Zoo - We are proud to be the veterinarian for the Bowmanville Zoo. This zoo is the oldest privately owned zoo in Canada, and was established in 1919. They are accredited through the Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums, which ensures that they bring the highest levels of husbandry to the animals under their care. 

Companion Animal Parasite Council - The Companion Animal Parasite Council is an organisation which was established to create guidelines for the control of internal and external parasites that threaten the health of pets and people.

Canadian Food Inspection Agency - The CFIA maintains this website with information on a variety of animal health related topics, including the latest news on such things as Mad Cow Disease, foot and mouth disease, and many other things.

Choosing a new puppy - This is a nice starter guide of things that you should consider when you are thinking about getting a puppy. 

Canadian Kennel Club - The Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) is the primary registry body for purebred dogs in Canada and currently recognizes 175 breeds. As a non-profit organization, the CKC is dedicated to encouraging, guiding, and advancing the interests of purebred dogs and their responsible owners and breeders in Canada and promoting the knowledge and understanding of the benefits which dogs can bring to Canadian society.

Durham Health Unit

The Farley Foundation - Established by the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) in 2001, the Farley Foundation (a registered charity) assists seniors and disabled persons on limited incomes with the necessary treatment of their pets. In 2007, the Foundation expanded its criteria to assist the pets of women at risk of abuse (and their children) who are participating in OVMA’s SafePet Program. The Farley Foundation honors the human-animal bond and seeks to help those who most benefit from pet ownership

Gateway Pet Memorial - Gateway is a company that offers pet cremation and memorial services. They offer a wide selection of urns and specialty products to remember pet by. Looking through their website now can make the decisions easier for when the times comes.

Growing Up With Pets - Growing Up With Pets is an educational program devoted to bringing parents a resource for information and advice on how to help them foster strong, healthy relationships between their children and their pets.

Healthy Cats for Life

Healthy Mouth - A water additive product for both cats and dogs that can be used in conjunction with other dental homecare to reduce the amount of plaque that builds up on their teeth.

Indoor Pet Initiative - This is an informative website geared towards enrichment of the indoor pet, and especially focuses on our feline friends.  

International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management - The International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management is a multi-disciplinary organization that seeks to promote the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge related to the biology and clinical treatment of pain in animals. Bowmanville Veterinary Clinic is a registered member of the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management.

Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre - The Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre is a non-profit, registered charity that operates a hospital for injured wild turtles.

Medi-cal/Royal Canin - Royal Canin has been committed to an approach leading to Health Nutrition, with a view to giving the most precise and adequate nutritional answers to the specific requirements of dogs and cats.

Ontario Veterinary College - Located in Guelph, Ontario the OVC is a veterinary teaching college that has been established since 1862.

Ontario Veterinary Medical Association -  Ontario Veterinary Medical Association is the professional association representing veterinarians across Ontario. OVMA is committed to advancing and promoting excellence in veterinary medicine, the betterment of animal health and contributing to the protection of human health.

The Owl Foundation - The Owl Foundation is a registered Canadian charitable organization focused on helping wild Canadian owls that are injured or orphaned. The foundation operates an owl rehabilitation centre located in the Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, Canada.

PetLynx  - Is an online database of lost and found pets striving to save the lives of lost animals.

Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre - Open 365 days a year, Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre (SPWC) has been in operation for 20 years. Their mandate is to help all injured and orphaned wildlife, both mammals and birds, and release them back into the wild.
